"I went to look at a locally advertised Gas golf cart today. It was a 1997 Yamaha and was priced reasonably. The Body was OK. No major issues, but some blemishes from use. The motor ran good, shifted and drove good. The owner and I negotiated a price and a pickup timeframe. His wife called him away, which gave me some more time to inspect this cart. When I opened the cover of the engine, I noticed the battery tray missing and the frame was almost completely rotted thru where the round cross member is welded onto the square tube frame rail. I would suspect this is a common problem of steel frame carts. The aluminum frame carts 1. are not as prone to this type of corrosion as are steel frame carts, 2. the aluminum frame carts are newer so they haven't had as much time to corrode. My advise to you, ask if the unit has a steel or aluminum frame, and if the owner can take a picture of that area so you can see if there is any corrosion damage. Frame work to fix this issue can add up to a few hundred dollars so bid accordingly. If the owner is anyway reluctant to take and send these photos.... stay away, unless you have the skills and resources to fix it yourself" by: sidecarjoe
